BC Access Awareness Day
Marking BC Access Awareness Day on June 1, 2109 I had the pleasure to bring together a dynamic panel of advocates with lived experience to explore some of the pressing issues facing people with diverse abilities.
The event was introduced with a keynote by the Hon. Shane Simpson, Minister of Social Development and Poverty Reduction Vancouver-Hastings, noting his commitment to reducing barriers and increasing opportunities for the community.
Moderated by legendary MLA Sam Sullivan with Laura Mackenrot, Vice Chair of the City of Vancouver Persons with Disabilities Advisory Committee; Kathy Browne, Co-chair of the City of Vancouver Persons with Disabilities Advisory Committee; and Yat Li, Communications Manager with the Western Institute for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (WIDHH).
The afternoon was a masterclass in solutions seeking and unearthing some of the overlooked barriers to access facing the community. More to come.
